Message my Z is listed for it's blue book replacement cost, plus an $8k accessory rider that's written to cover engine and body parts as well as electronics, as a pleasure-only sub-2000-miles-yr secondary car. could have added gap coverage to pay off the loan if i still owed money on it, too (i don't have that anymore). all deductibles (collision, comprehensive) are $500.

as my second vehicle with Safeco, the multi-car discount almost pays for the Z. my SUV + renters alone is about $135 a month - adding the Z policy, minus discount, is about $142 a month.

you can also buy an umbrella policy, designed to cover any gaps in your individual policies as well as extend personal liability coverage (in case someone sues you, etc) that can make up for a lack in coverage on your auto policy.

this is the kind of thing you can't get by shopping for a policy online, or on the phone with a call center. you need an agent that you can discuss things with and who can write a custom policy for you. an agent that represents multiple companies is especially flexible if they know the various products well and can fit you with the right one.

when you're filing claims, it's usually easier to get everything covered if all your policies are with the same company. otherwise, Hagerty wants Safeco to pay, Safeco wants Hagerty to pay, etc, and there are tons of clauses for denying payment where coverage already exists.
